Newquay Surfing Beaches

Fistral Beach Beach Break. Waves break left and right, and are best at low tide, although Fistral has waves throughout it's tide range. The cleanest waves are to be found when the wind is off-shore, and the wind direction is south to easterly. Fistral hosts most major competitions, and the main peaks can become crowded when the surf is good.

Amenities: Shop, Cafe & Takeaway, Surf hire, Surf school, British Surfing Association unit, Lifeguard unit. Top

Little Fistral Beach Break, but runs into rocky sections, right hand point break when big. Low tide break only with peaks that run up to Main Fistral, paddle out in channel, watch out for rocks. Wind condition same as main Fistral, for experienced surfers only.

Amenities: Car Park & Toilets, No Lifeguard. Top

South Fistral Beach Break. Best waves break left, holds it's shape in big swell, low to mid-tide. Experienced surfers can avoid paddling out in big waves by entering off the rocks with caution! Offshore SSW to Easterly.

Amenities: Parking, Toilets, Food Kiosk, Lifeguard, Surf Hire. Top

Town Beaches Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne & Lusty Glaze. Swell needs to be good for these beaches to show any waves. They are more sheltered and can be the only beaches to surf when the main surfing beaches are blown out. Surf is restricted at Towan and Lusty Glaze during the peak season. Good for Beginners!

Amenities: Town Car Parks, Cafe's, Toilets, Lifeguards, Surf Hire. Top

Whipsiderry Beach Beach Break. Best waves break left, works at low to mid-tide. Access to beaches down steep steps, if you wander down the beach be aware that the incoming tide can cut you off. Cut off times are displayed at the top of the steps. Offshore is South to Easterly.

No amenities. No lifeguard. Not recommended for children. Top

Watergate Bay Beach Break. 2 mile stretch of beach when tide is low, plenty of different peaks breaking left and right. Breaks best mid to high-tide, but becomes crowded at high tide. Offshore south to easterly.
